I’m Striving to be Just Like You

I am a relatively new blogger with 3 months under my belt in the big leagues of personal finance blogging, well I am in the minor leagues, the blogs I read are the major leagues.  Before I started this blog I have always been interested in personal finance, paying off debt, investing, and financial independence.  Now that I am putting my stories about my personal finance experience and opinions, I have more and more respect for those who are sharing their own views.  I was riding the train home from work which happens every day Monday-Friday, this is where some of my ideas for blogs begin, among the middle class, tourists, and homeless of Chicago.  I started thinking about how much I want to strive to be where many of you are in your personal finances and blog writings.  It didn’t stop there, I went on thinking of the great blogs and income that are out there and even to those that are struggling financially but shared a great story about how they are overcoming debt like myself.  So I decided that I needed to write a post about all the great things I admire and let them know, I’m striving to be just like you!

1500days I strive to have almost 1 million dollars in stocks, be less than 3 years away from retirement, and even writing a funny rant with a picture like this.arggh-1024x804

Fifighter I’m striving to own 5 rental income properties all over the United States just like FI Fighter and one of my favorite posts asking Can I retire with 100K invested in real estate today?  I strive to be included on his “Inspiration” list of blogs, without asking because then am I really an inspiration?  Also this isn’t asking right…….

BudgetsareSexy Oh man where do I start, he shares with you how to make extra cash Hustling, and well the man rocks a Mohawk and while I’m not striving to grow one, i’m certainly impressed, that’s Rock Star material.  Which leads me to another fine treasure, Rock Star Finance a collection of the best personal finance articles on the web today, I was lucky enough to be included here, the articles included were 12,000 Days till I Retire and Caddying for Michael Jordan.  Probably the most important to me above everything was when I first started, he responded when I emailed him with questions, I know everyone says they will respond or help you out, but J Money emailed me back and gave me encouraging words, I’m striving to just like you.

Frugal Farmer I strive to pay off debt and get out the old mindset of being broke.  We deserve better, we deserve to be debt free, we deserve to work hard and reap the rewards.

Luke1428 I have a plan to pay off my mortgage early, but he has done exactly that and this is why I strive to be like Luke1428.  Here are 4 reasons why he paid off his mortgage early and Reason #4: Flexibility, Freedom and Choices is on the top of my list.

Club Thrifty Club Thrifty says to “Stop spending, and start living”  what a great quote to base your writing and your financial life on.  Holly at Club Thrifty is at another level of blogging, she writes for the first blog I ever started reading over at Get Rich Slowly, I strive to have a great website that I can share my message and make an income.

Financial Samurai I look at the things he has accomplished with his website, creating a network, creating great content like the 10% Income Rule on cars and many other posts that are thought provoking and controversial which makes for a fun read, I strive to be like you.

Mad Fientistmadfientist-title-large When I read the Mad FIentist(FI for Financial Independence), it is like I am back in college with my favorite professor just feeding with me knowledge, I’m constantly reading and rereading his items on Retiring Earlier and the Ultimate Retirement Account.  I strive to be able to use this great advice and increase my early retirement date.

CNA Finance I had one of my best experiences from Josh at CNA Finance, he gave me the opportunity to write a guest post, it was one of my favorite experiences during my time as a blogger.  I really feel like he cares and wants to help people, I strive to be an MVP like CNA Finance.

Planting Our Pennies When I read about the POP’s(the awesome looking cartoon on the right) I see so much of ourselves minus the cat of course.
They do fun things like go hang out with Warren Buffett and share how they are growing their Net Worth.

There are so many great bloggers who are sharing personal stories, financial tips, and more, thank you for helping, sharing, commenting, and giving financial and personal motivation while I strive to be like you.

Who do you strive to be like in the personal finance world of bloggers?  Who has helped you along the way?  Share with us…..

  • Hey Steve, thanks for the shoutout. Tell your wife that we had major reservations about sharing our financial figures online as well; the key was to remain anonymous while doing so. We believe that there are real and positive effects to putting hard numbers out there!

Happy to share. I think putting actual numbers out there is tough door to knock down, but putting hard numbers with monthly and/or yearly goals I might be able to get her on board.

  • Steven, first of all, you’re doing great at blogging! Look at your Alexa score, already at 175K in 3 months! Wooty! Woot! Woot!

Secondly, you told me at my blog your FI date is Oct 2020! That’s rockin’ in my book! I’ll probably be retiring about the same time, and I’m much older than you (I’m pretty sure on the much!)

You’ve got some great blogs listed here that I follow and admire too, and some new ones I’m not that familiar with. It really is motivating to see what y’all are accomplishing. It makes a debt recovery journey almost enjoyable! I just can’t wait to see when everyone starts their FI days! I’ll be cheering from the sidelines for sure!

Thanks Deb that’s very nice of you to mention some of the things I have been working towards. I have really been working towards breaking the 200K mark on Alexa so I was very happy about that one, FI will be very sweet, day by day I work to keep the 9-5 Doctor away. Thanks again Deb for your help today!

  • Thanks for the mention!

There are so many great FI role models. Imagine what we could all accomplish if we all lived in the same vicinity? The only one who lives anywhere near me (that I know of) is that obscure, relatively unknown MMM dude. 🙂

If I ever met MMM, I would be disappointed unless he was riding a bike carrying a small home improvement store with a 12 inch handle bar mustache, all while nailing together a simple reading shelf shouting Bad***city is who I am. Thanks for stopping by good sir!

  • I didn’t know you were in Chicago! I’ll have to pick your brain sometime about potential rental properties there.

Yeah been here for a little over 4 years now, ask away I have visited a ton on neighborhoods when we were getting our home here and after when we were looking for another real estate investment. I’m better with the North side, but know a little bit about the South as well.

  • Thanks so much for the mention! I love the community that the PF blog field has built. It’s so fun to be a part of it!

Your welcome on the mention but I really did it because I am impressed by so many people out there, it was much deserved. I would be down for a mini-blog meet-up one day, although my first thought of this scares me to death, haha.

  • Rock on man – congrats on making it this long so far! It’s easy to burn out and give up, so keep on pouring your heart into the articles and killin’ it. We’ve got a great community here!

I see your hustle and desire to grow your blog…that is why I’ve nominated you for the Liebster award.

Its purpose is to bring recognition to new / small blogs (under 200 followers).

The nominee then has the privilege to pass it forward to 5 other blogs that meet the criteria. You don’t have to participate, but if you do want to — the rules can be found on my post about my nomination:

I’m sure now you’ve joined in some of the people above Steve & looking forward to watching your journey 🙂

Having that positive influence from other people has been so important in my journey, sometimes it’s just reading an article and sometimes it’s communicating with that person. It’s changed my circle of money friends without a doubt, I relate more to a 1500 days or Our Next Life than I do a guy/girl sitting next to me in the cubicle. Such a great community, I can’t say that enough.
