Martin Luther King Jr MLK Keep Moving Forward
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. I wanted to share one quote made by a man who not only changed lives in his time, but changed lives in generations to come. Today I will share my favorite quote by MLK and expand a little more on its meaning to me.
“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”
This quote can be related to almost every aspect of our lives including our professional and personal lives. We can apply it to many situations that happen in our lives on a daily basis, today I will look at this quote through the lens of personal finance and money.
If you can’t fly……………
This was one of my main struggles when I started out with money. I wanted to fly. I wanted the big car, big job, I wanted to travel to see friends all over the world, I wanted to be the CEO and not the entry level person with just a college degree that I actually was. I wanted to be a star poker player, run a business, and do all it at the same time. I wanted to fly.
For me, I tried to fly first, but then realized I didn’t have the license to take off or maybe I did, but then I crashed. I had to crawl my way back to Even Steven. I wasn’t able to fly, but I tried to run, then walk, even crawl.
The last part of the quote hits home the most. “Whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” If you have read my blog, what I do best is just to keep moving forward. I started at a very entry level job making a small salary, but have moved up within the company, I bought an expensive Mercedes Benz, but thought better of it and today have zero car debt, started a side hustle with eBay, paid off credit cards, bought an investment property, I am months away from paying off my student loans, and today I am closer than ever before to becoming debt free and financially independent. You know what the key is to overcoming my failures and working towards my goals is I kept moving forward. I didn’t stop and say this entry level job is the best I can do, I’m trying to walk today and maybe run tomorrow. I didn’t quit I kept moving forward with my career, paying off debt, and everything else in between.
MLK has inspired millions in so many ways, I hope today we are all reminded of how we need to keep moving forward to better people in many aspects of our lives.
